When is the Cheapest “Popular” Time to Go to Disney?
Disney World is a wonderful place to go any time of year, but when is the least expensive “peak” week?
By the way we define peak week as:
- Not too hot (i.e. not late June or July),
- Not too cold (i.e. December and January),
- Not too rainy in Florida (Late September or October),
- Kids are off of school, and
- Things are slow at work.
This narrows the field to Winter Break (i.e. President’s Week), Spring Break, or Summer Break.
President’s week is out. This is the most expensive week of the year for travelers going to Florida (try getting a discount room – nearly impossible); Spring break is better because there is not just one but about three or four spring breaks weeks, depending on where you are in the country, what school system you belong to, whether you’re talking about public or private schools, or colleges and universities.
Summer is best, but you’ll need to avoid the obvious “hot spots” such as the third week in June when most schools across the country are closing for three months, Memorial Day week and Labor Day week. Phew!
What’s left you say???
The week before Labor Day
Labor Day week is a mess – folks are trying to get their last bit of summer in, but the week before??? Not too bad.
Hotel prices are about 20% less than the following week and our recommended vendors have great inventory (see Get a Room for the best room deals we’ve found). Also most people don’t really think about this week because they focus on the following week and the end of the summer, yet most businesses are slow at that time of the year so getting off of work tends to be easier – especially if your co-workers are all vying for the week leading up to Labor Day!
Always remember that Disney World is great at any time of the year, so if this does not work for you, try using the rules above a little less stringently. Ultimately the tradeoff is between money and time of year, give a little on one and you’ll get a little on the other.
By the way, if you have not signed up for 100 Days Til’ Disney, we recommend that you do so. This, and dozens of other money saving ideas are included, and 100 Days Til’ Disney is absolutely free.
